The RMM market has exploded over the past five years. Dozens of products target MSPs and in-house IT teams, each with a different approach. Picking the right tool is a decision that affects your productivity for years.

What is an RMM tool?

A Remote Monitoring and Management tool is software that collects live metrics (CPU, RAM, disk, network, events), triggers alerts, and lets you administer machines remotely (patch management, scripts, remote desktop, inventory, antivirus).

The main RMM categories

RMMs for MSPs

Designed for IT providers managing many clients. Multi-tenant, with ticketing, white-labeling, per-client reports. Examples: WezOps, NinjaOne, Atera, Datto RMM.

RMMs for in-house teams

Focused on managing a single company’s estate. Deep inventory, scheduling, patch policies. Examples: ManageEngine Endpoint Central, Microsoft Intune.

Specialized monitoring

Not full RMMs, but strong for metrics only: Zabbix, PRTG, Netdata, Prometheus+Grafana. No remote management, no patch management.

Must-have features

  • Multi-OS supervision: Windows, Linux, macOS (and ideally Synology)
  • Real-time alerts: email, Slack, Teams, Discord
  • Patch management: automatic Windows / Linux updates
  • Remote desktop: integrated terminal or screen
  • Software inventory: installed apps per device
  • Integrated ticketing: for MSPs tracking client interventions
  • Reports: compliance, availability, patching

Non-functional criteria

Deployment speed

The best tools install in one command line (PowerShell / bash). Avoid solutions that require manual firewall configuration.

Hosting and GDPR compliance

For European MSPs, picking an EU-hosted, GDPR-compliant RMM is critical. Check vendor location, DPA, sub-processors.

Pricing model

Tiered pricing (WezOps) tends to be more predictable than per-endpoint (NinjaOne) or per-technician (Atera) pricing, especially when the team or fleet grows.

Local-language support

A monitoring tool is critical. Being able to reach support in your language, without timezone friction, matters a lot.

Our shortlist for 2026

Based on observed criteria for European SMBs and MSPs:

  1. WezOps — the best features/price ratio for a European MSP (Free plan available)
  2. NinjaOne — mature ecosystem, excellent for mid-to-large MSPs
  3. Atera — great for solo technicians handling many devices
  4. ManageEngine Endpoint Central — for in-house teams needing on-premise
